Indigo Dye Workshop

Our first indigo dye workshop in London marked the beginning of a new chapter for WFOND. More than learning a traditional craft, it was a chance to slow down, create with our hands and connect with one another through a shared experience.

Slowing down, creating together

Our first indigo dye workshop in London marked the beginning of a new chapter for WFOND. More than learning a traditional craft, it was an opportunity to slow down, create with our hands and connect with one another through a shared experience.

Fold, bind, dip and reveal — the quiet rhythm of shibori dyeing.

As participants waited for the fabric to absorb the dye and reveal its final colour, conversations naturally unfolded. These quiet moments became just as meaningful as the making itself, reminding us that craft is not only about creating objects, but also about creating space — for reflection, curiosity and human connection.

Every piece reveals a one-of-a-kind pattern.

One of our favourite discoveries was seeing participants bring old garments and textiles from home. Through natural indigo dyeing, familiar pieces found a new life, encouraging a more sustainable and personal approach to making. We hope future workshops will continue to inspire people to explore the creative potential of materials they already own.

This workshop also gave us valuable insights for the future. Every gathering teaches us something new, helping us create more thoughtful, welcoming and inclusive experiences.

With thanks

A heartfelt thank you to SmallWOD, 706 London Youth Space and SAIM London for making this event possible. We look forward to creating together again.

Every piece we make supports our community of makers.
