Tubu (土布) is a hand-woven cotton fabric from Chongming Island, Shanghai, with over 600 years of history. Our fabric dates from the 1960s–80s — much of it woven by women as part of their trousseau, set aside for decades before finding its way to us.
We work with these surviving textiles to give them a new life. Every bag is one-of-a-kind: because each family's loom was a different width, dimensions vary slightly, and some pieces carry the faint marks of age — part of the cloth's story.
Tightly hand-woven, naturally dyed, and made to last.

Please use a neutral detergent and cold (or warm) water; the item is machine washable and should be air-dried. Our naturally dyed fabrics are colored using organic materials, which behave differently than synthetic dyes. These garments may retain a scent from the dyeing process and may experience color fading or color transfer due to friction, especially when new.
